In order to maintain our district’s current level programs and activities, voters must approve a replace-ment Educational Programs and Operations Levy of $5.6 million for 2011 and $6 million for 2012 on Feb. 9. That is $328 per $100,000 in assessed value in the first collection year, and $341 per $100,000 the second year. State funding provides only the bare necessities when it comes to educating our children, and is expected to get tighter with the state budget crisis. Local levies breach that gap. The present levy runs out at the end of 2010. This would NOTimpact our local taxes in any significant way, since the levy is simply replacing the expiring one. Property owners would see very little difference in their tax bills. The estimated cost of school support by property owners in dollars per $1,000 assessed value is actually less than it was in 2006. This is because some $30 million in new property values were added through new construction in 2009 alone. |

Levy Passage Crucial to Maintain Value of Homes
With the slow real estate market and challenging refinance options, many homeowners are rightfully worried about their finances.
A common reaction might be to try to keep property taxes down by voting down levies.
Failure to pass this maintenance levy, though, would be catastrophic to the value of all homes in the Lake Tapps area. The overriding reason, buyers say, for moving to this area is the quality of the schools in the Dieringer School District.
This is reflected in our high test scores, safe schools, quality teaching and support staff and parent involvement. Let’s hold on to what we’ve got!
